📌 ICU patients may lose 750–950 mL of blood during a hospitalization through diagnostic sampling.
📌 Routine blood collection can use ~45 times more blood than the laboratory actually needs.
📌 In the Netherlands alone, around 500,000 L of blood are discarded every year.
Patient Blood Management is not only about transfusion. Preserving the patient’s own blood is also an ethical, economic and environmental responsibility.
